《碾玉观音》是宋代话本。主人公璩秀秀，出身于贫寒的装裱匠家庭，美貌出众，聪明伶俐，更练就了一手好刺绣。无奈家境窘迫，其父以一纸"献状"，将她卖与咸安郡王，从此，正值豆蔻年华的秀秀，身入侯门，失去自由。其后秀秀和碾玉匠崔宁品貌相当，相互爱恋。为了追求自由的爱情两人一起私奔，却屡次被郡王迫害，后崔宁被发配，秀秀被杖责而亡，其父母担惊受怕投河而死。秀秀魂魄与崔宁又续前缘......
