In this sequel to The Color of Your Skin Ain't the Color of Your Heart, Phillips returns to 1860s North Carolina. Katie Clairborne and former slave Mary Ann "Mayme" Jukes have been living on their own at Rosewood plantation for over a year now, ever since renegade soldiers killed Katie's family. Determined to stay together, the girls had concealed the deaths from the townspeople through grit, determination, and faith. But now Katie's Uncle Burchard arrives in town. He suspects that his brother has died and is determined to claim the plantation as his own. This work will appeal to both historical fiction lovers and regular CBA readers who would enjoy the post-Civil War setting. Phillips, a CBA bookseller and the author of almost 50 novels, resides in Eureka, CA.
