With the help of a wise English teacher, Gracie discovers that, even without magic, "writing can change the world," and in the end she makes a decision that brings the novel to a satisfying close. Shy twelve-year-old Gracie finds a magic journal at a yard sale, and everything she writes in it comes true. Gracie struggles with the moral gray areas of her newfound power and the more standard predicament of a best-friend/boyfriend relationship. The magical premise will engage young writers and readers and provides fodder for thinking about the power of writing.
