旧制度与大革命 (The Old Regime and the French Revolution)

People may argue that this is not the real historical subject matter, because it has no narrative content. In the prologue of this work, Tocqueville himself has claimed: "This book is not about the history of French Revolution since much has been insightfully talked about by people before me. Repetition is not my concentration of this work. This book to a certain extent is the study of French Revolution." He also explains in the preface that he plans to continue writing the second volume containing the story of the French Revolution. His drafts of the second volume is quite fascinating which I'd like to brief in the later section. )
