Inspired by the classic silent film of 1919, this original audio play won the Independent Publishers Award in 1998 for best direct-to-audio production. John de Lancie stars as a young poet who visits a fair one night with his friend and girlfriend. Entering Dr. Caligari's tent, they meet the mysterious Cesare, a kind of zombie, who is neither alive nor dead—and who forecasts doom for our high-strung protagonist and his friends.

Combining the directness of an old-time radio play and the language and themes of high psychological drama, this unique production was written, produced and directed by Peabody and Audie Award–winner Yuri Rasovsky and features a superb cast.

This full-cast audio production, inspired by the classic silent film Das Kabinett des Doktor Caligari, is an incredible, chilling listening experience. The production manages to be subtle, yet startling. The sound effects slyly draw you into the story as a silent, yet ever present, observer. The standout acting makes reality seem mere fiction. Overall, this story will give you the chills while it leaves you gasping in admiration for the skilled players. John de Lancie, as Franz, is, as always, superb He is a consummate actor and it shows. Robertson Dean, as Karl, is a charming rogue. An amazing talent. Kaitlin Hopkins, as Anna, gives a strong, layered performance. The members of the ensemble are all outstanding actors. Yuri Rasovsky--who wrote and produced this superior experience--must be a genius. Superb. L.A. (c)AudioFile, Portland, Maine
