IN THE NEWS • If you have a news story, product launch or details of some other topical item you’d like our readers to know about, email claycraft.ed@kelsey.co.uk

THROWN PLANT POT • With spring now here in all its glory, many of us will be turning our attention to the garden and planting up our pots with colourful flowers to take us through to the summer. This project demonstrates how to throw a traditionally shaped pot with some additional decoration to show those plants off to stunning effect

LINDA BLOOMFIELD HOW TO MAKE FOOD-SAFE GLAZES

MOULDED DECORATIVE DISH • This is a project that combines slabbing and moulding techniques to make a wide flanged dish that could be used as a bird bath in the garden or a fruit bowl in the home

SIMPLE SLAB VESSEL • This little vessel was inspired by the work of a friend, who in turn was inspired by the work of John Maltby while doing a workshop with him many years ago at Aberystwyth Arts Centre

Reduction glazes in electric kilns: a new twist • Jordan Ward-Williams, Georgie Field and Matthew Tyas

COILED VESSEL • Coiling is generally a slow making method that requires patience and precision, but we are cheating a little here by starting the form off in a mould to speed the process up

The Accidental Studio Webbed potters • As we write, the rain is still falling. The winds are howling around our ears, making everything rattle, and we are still lighting the log burner every day – our annual budget for coal and logs is completely blown out of the water

Back to Basics • From time to time we run a quick refresher on certain techniques that we refer to a lot. Here, we feature three exercises for throwing: a pad to fix the batt onto the wheel head, centering a large amount of clay and throwing a bowl, and finally, throwing small bowls off the hump and trimming a foot ring.
