GOURDS AND PUMPKINS • As we move inevitably toward the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness, we thought it might be timely to make something to reflect this theme, and what better than gourds and pumpkins as a table centrepiece for the autumn months
DIY WEDGING TABLE • Elaine Williams is a keen potter and, with a background in engineering, her husband Julian is a dab hand with power tools. He made her a concrete wedging table, and she was so delighted with how well it worked that he thought he’d share the process with us

SURFACE DECORATION SIMPLE SGRAFFITO • Sgraffito is an exciting way of decorating a ceramic surface that involves drawing through coloured slip or underglaze to expose the clay beneath. The technique at its simplest is a line drawing, but more effects can be achieved with the addition of background detail – how much or how little surface elaboration is applied is down to the vision of the maker and the effects they want to achieve.
TRIAXIAL GLAZE BLEND CHAOS • After accidentally replicating an inspirational pot because my glazes were too like the original, I decided to play with the colourants to come up with something different
